Pick the punchline first
The versions that land are built around a single idea: a team fresh off a loss, the fantasy manager sitting in last, the friend who never shows up on time. Work out who the joke is aimed at and build the cast from there. That person usually works best in the laughing close-up or behind the sax, because those are the moments viewers rewatch.
Draft your caption at the same time. No text is burned into the video, so the caption is where the team, the league or the occasion gets named.
Assigning the five seats in an Outstanding meme
Slot 1 is the lead, seated at the desk mic with the red keyboard, front and centre in the opening shot. Slots 2 and 3 are the backing vocalists standing behind on the left and right. Slot 4 is the close-up who breaks into laughter in shot two. Slot 5 is the saxophonist who closes things out.
Instruments, the desk and the shelves are all part of the reference scene, so you never need to photograph them. Your only job is supplying up to five faces.
Choosing the right portraits
Upload between one and five photos, each showing a single adult; seats you leave open are filled by people already uploaded. A daylight, chest-up selfie looking straight at the camera beats a moody party picture every time. If all you have is a team photo, crop everyone into a separate image first, because one group shot cannot give the band five distinct faces.
Avoid sunglasses, masks, strong filters and extreme angles. Those are where resemblance breaks down first.
Length, audio and quality
Every clip is 14 seconds in vertical 9:16. A 480p render is 10 credits and a 720p render is 22. Keep the reference clip’s soundtrack, or export silent and attach the trending “Outstanding” sound in TikTok or Reels if your account offers it.
You can also add a short note beginning with “Outfit:” to steer the band’s clothing, such as team colours for everyone.
Check it, then share it
Play the clip all the way through. Faces may wander and the saxophone may warp; uploading a clearer portrait for that seat usually solves it. Once it looks good, post with the platform’s AI label turned on, and only share a version that everyone in it has approved.
